You’re never going to be handed anything in life. Nothing happens without hard work, persistence, dedication and determination. Most of us take that first step of formulating what it is, we truly want. This is the process where you’re ambitious. But you don’t entirely follow up on it. You can have all the ambition in the world but if you don’t act on it, it doesn’t mean anything.

Every person in this world who has ever lived and will ever live has wanted and will want greatness. You’re not unique in your pursuit. Some of them have wanted it more than anyone else. But in the end, they lived an average life. Most of you at times may have even wondered how the most abject human beings have millions and millions of dollars and fame. How are some of the most imbecilic people in the world also some of the most famous? This is because, to follow your hopes and dreams, it takes more than just studying book after book. It takes more than morality and discipline to make a stance in the world. It takes more than a fortunate college education, more than talent, and more than luck. It takes movement. It takes energy. It takes encouragement and courage to take risks. It takes mistakes and failures and “I told you so’s”. It takes decadence.  It requires courage and bravery to get out of your room and out on the street, wondering to yourself “How the hell am I going to end up on that skyscraper’s jumbo-vision?” Every actor, every singer, every successful entrepreneur , every inspirational athlete didn’t get to where they are without going out into the world and making a fool out of themselves.

Everything you do in life is for personal growth. To become the strongest version of yourself, you must not ever be afraid to do anything. No matter how insane, how degrading, how difficult it may seem. If there’s an opportunity to wash dishes that are being handed to you but you’re studying to become an engineer, take that opportunity. Don’t think about it. If you need the money, it’s not less than you. For all you know, whilst you’re washing those dishes your mind may hit the greatest epiphany imaginable. That epiphany could be your defining moment.

Mahatma Gandhi once said “Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it’s very important that you do it”. Nothing in life is pointless. That algebra you do in high school, which will never be pragmatic in your life, may end up building and working your mind so you can think faster. That speed of thought could one day be the difference between you and another person, fighting for the same opportunity. It takes more than confidence, it takes more than charm and it takes more than aesthetic beauty. It takes walking down the pathway of life and thinking of every step you take as a growing opportunity, every step. And never stopping. Not for a minute, not even for a second, no matter what. You can trip, you can fall and you could be paraplegic or an amputee. But never stop moving forward on this pathway. Until that God given gift, your heart, doesn’t stop beating, you don’t stop walking.
